Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
