European Leaders Decry US Move as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe such as the French president accused Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the visa restrictions were placed on individuals who have been central to campaigns to enact legislation regulating American tech companies.
“For too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce American platforms to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “This government will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”

Nations including Germany, Spain, and the UK, alongside numerous EU representatives supported the French president in condemning the move.
The bans were enacted this week against an ex-European commissioner who helped draft the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as four anti-disinformation campaigners, including two in Germany and two in the UK.
