'Living a Nightmare': Relatives of Unaccounted For Teenagers Await News After Ski Resort Inferno
The relatives of teens missing after a devastating fire at a bar in a Swiss ski resort are facing an excruciating period of uncertainty for answers and pleading for information about their loved ones via social media.
The inferno engulfed the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of January 1st. Verified images show the ceiling being engulfed in flames as beverages with fireworks are held aloft.
Emergency services have warned that it could take an extended period to identify the victims of the fire, which killed four dozen individuals and hurt another over a hundred. A spokesperson noted on Friday that 113 of the injured have been identified, with work continuing to name the other six.
In the waiting period, loved ones have been taking to online platforms to request clues about their friends who were in attendance that fateful night.
Desperate Searches for the Missing
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are not yet determined, according to an public plea from his parent.
The resident of Lutry near the city, explained to a local newspaper that she had gone back to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the same in the capital, but could not find him.
"I'm living a nightmare, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in critical condition. It's horrific," she said.
She added that some of his friends had been discovered with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's indescribable; they went through hell."
The Italy's government has confirmed that a number of of its young people remain missing.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, who hailed from Genoa but now living in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has stated that he is no longer with us, without mentioning the tragedy, honoring a "young athlete who embodied dedication and authentic values."
His parent, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a official announcement of his death is still pending.
Additional Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also unaccounted for. His parent explained that he had been on holiday but had gone out with a group and ended up at the bar.
"A close friend informed me they fled after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he they were separated," she explained, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
One of his educators commented, "He was known for his kindness and positive demeanor, coupled with great responsibility. Often offer to get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives permanently in the country, was also present on that night, according to sources.
Her brother has published an urgent request online, saying the relatives has had "no updates" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.
Consular authorities from her other nation say they are actively engaged with the situation.
