Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future following a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, representing the team's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received significant backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them since this match so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a phase such as this with results so bad.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to the top, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
