Released recently

Brisbane hasn't been a place that offers England crucial Ashes optimism

After defeat by the Australian side during the opening match, the visiting team must stir themselves before heading to the famous Gabba, a venue where the English haven't triumphed since 1986

Men wearing three lions have habitually been easy prey in Brisbane

The Inspirational Success

Within recent memory of English disappointments, dreams and bodies is a source of inspiration provided by a cricket hero

It is exactly the 15th anniversary of Sir Alastair Cook mastered the Gabba with a career-defining 235 not out, preserving the initial Test from the 2010-11 series establishing England's trajectory to their only Ashes series win down under over nearly four decades

Historic Achievement

It commenced of Cook's triumphant tour of Australia; three hundred-plus scores accumulating 766 runs

Cricket great Hammond stands as the only Briton who has made more runs during a Test series on Australian soil

Victory came 3-1, with every win by an innings

England hasn't achieved a Test victory there since those glory days

Cook's Memories

"One tends to forget the tough times, the tension and worry that went into that," Cook recalls

"I reflect proudly. My contribution was substantial during a campaign where England triumphed 3-1 down under where each victory were won by an innings"

Journey to Excellence

The path toward Australian glory began 18 months earlier after the 2009 Ashes on home soil

Though England triumphed, the opener scored under 25 per innings with just one score above 50

He desired better

"While cricket involves teamwork, personal performance generates the feeling like you want to pull your weight," he states

Technical Transformation

Just 48 hours following the triumphant events, he was back facing countless bowls during training with Graham Gooch

Early outcomes showed promise

He scored three hundreds during winter tours against South African and Bangladeshi teams

Pivotal Instances

After coming back to British conditions for the 2010 summer, the left-hander struggled significantly

During eight batting opportunities facing these opponents, his highest score reached only 29

Scoreless overnight after the second day during the final Test against Pakistan at the famous ground, Cook was convinced he was playing his final Test performance prior to selection

"There I was in the bar, trying to find the resolution in the bottom of a beer bottle," he reveals

Critical Moment

The 110-run innings secured his place on the plane to Australia

The team maintained preparations with two victories and one draw of their warm-up games down under

When the first Test arrived at the Gabba, they were hit by three wickets from Siddle

Historic Partnership

Shortly prior to the end of the third day, both batsmen began England's second batting effort with a deficit of 221 runs

They achieved 19 without loss when play concluded then continued with an exhibition engraved in cricket memory

"My memory doesn't retain any instructions, anything of what we spoke about," Cook remembers

The opening pair accumulated 188 runs in their partnership

His unbeaten 235 stood as the best performance achieved by a Briton on Australian soil since the 1930s

Total Command

England capitalised on an astonishing first morning in the second match in South Australia

Following Anderson's additional wicket the Australian batsman, the hosts stood at 2-3 and couldn't recover

He continued his Queensland achievement with 148 in a Test remembered for Kevin Pietersen dismantling the Australian bowling

Ultimate Victory

England could have retained the series in Western Australia, only for Mitchell Johnson to indicate the trouble from future encounters

What followed was perhaps England's single greatest day during Ashes competition on Australian soil

At the MCG, the 100,000-seater cathedral of Australian cricket, during Boxing Day, the Australian team were dismissed for 98

"If perfection existed for Boxing Day, this was it. Amazement prevailed when play concluded," recalls Cook

Series Conclusion

Fuelled by the focus to win the urn, Cook excelled once more at the Sydney Cricket Ground

His score of 189 lifted England to 644, their record innings on Australian soil

The question was not if victory would come both match and urn, but the timing

"The atmosphere was incredible," says Cook

"After Tremlett dismissed Michael Beer to win the match, that was a time of complete happiness"

Legacy and Recognition

The batsman received top accolades

The following seven seasons of his cricket journey included additional achievements

Following his international retirement, Cook was knighted for sporting achievements
